Moxie Memorizers

Are you ready to post your verse for the second half of March? I'm not going to lie. I memorized my first half of March verses this morning. Whew. My brain is feeling pretty crammed lately. I just wanted to give you that bit of information to remind you that memorizing scripture is for the glory of God. If we get competitive with how many verses we are taking in, we've missed the point. If we stop altogether, we will miss out. If we take verses into our memory without really meditating on what the Spirit wants us to learn, we may miss what He wants to speak to us. Our number of posting memorizers has dropped by about ten, but do not be discouraged, and especially do not judge others or yourself. Jump back in at any time! This is about life-transformation and discipline, not competition or condemnation.

Here is what I will be working on for the next couple of weeks:

Psalm 130:3-4 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

Love it! I'm so thankful that he doesn't keep a record of my sin. Not only could I not stand, but I would be crushed to the ground by the weight of all my yuck. Because he does not keep a record of my sin, I can stand. This is one of the main reasons I choose to stand as I sing worship to him, as a sign of thankfulness and honor to him who has freed me!

I absolutely loved the gathering on Sunday night at Second Mile. It was jam-packed with slides, music, reading, review, testimony, videos. I. Loved. It. Every single part. Can you ever feel the momentum of the atmosphere? That's how it felt to me. The new song moves me. The slides going during the music of all the Holy Spirit zingers we heard through the book of James re-convicted and excited me. Oh, the reading of the book of James! Powerful! Such a great display of unique personalities and insight into God's holy word! As Chad talked I could see in his face his hopes and desire for the future of what God is doing among us. The testimonies from others about how James has impacted them were beautiful. And, everyone stayed 20 minutes over time so that we could worship our Great God together. What a night!!

Eph 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do more than all we ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus through all generations, forever and ever! Amen.

It's funny that you mentioned you memorized your verse this morning because I was starting to feel a little behind on my goal for this month. So, I had decided I was going to post the verses I've set out to memorize since Jan 1st, and work on reviewing for the rest of this month. But then, as I was sitting in the orthodontist office with Nevaeh, I realized that I can add on another, keep it simple, and still review. So there's my challenge before me. Here's my verse:
Psalm 139: 23-24
"Search me O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way."

On Sunday I felt like I could stay for hours longer. It was one of those times in life when I say to myself, "this is so right". It felt so encouraging to be with people that I love so much, worshiping the God of all creation in so many different ways, to know that we're all being challenged, and know there's still so much ahead! I told Angel at the end, "This is the first Sunday in a long time that I don't feel completely jacked up from Chad's message. But at the same time feel like I am in the passenger seat of a vehicle that is about to go very fast down a crazy road, so I better buckle up!" This defines where I'm at in my life right now. I excited and feel totally inadequate at the same time. Ready for the Holy Spirit's empowerment.
(That's a novel, huh?! You asked, Angel!)

I know there's a jump in these verses, but I couldn't go through the entire nine and these were the most powerful when I read them.

I've gone through some really trying times recently and this reminds me that even in the midst of it all- God has been good to me, and that he also is the only One in my life that will satisfy my deep longing for purpose.

I was reminded of this verse at the Hillsong United worship event in Phoenix. I feel so encouraged by this verse.

This post makes me miss you all so much! I have felt so isolated lately because the kids have been sick. Thankful though to be able to be in community with you through this memorizing group.

When I get to go to the gym (not often lately), I have been taking my memorization card pack and putting the verse in front of me as I do each exercise.

My new verse is short but very timely because Jeff and I are having conversations about making sure we bring the kids up rooted in truth while protecting their hearts (and what that looks like as Joe gets to be school-aged).

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."

God has been teaching me about humility throughout the last 6 months in a BIG way. A lot of the scriptures I have chosen to memorize are ones that remind that God is in control, not me. That he is bigger, that his thoughts are above mine.

I don't remember if I posted earlier in March...I think I forgot. The scriptures I did up until now were:

Isaiah 55: 8-9
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my way, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thought."

John 16:33
"I have said these things that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

This last week God showed me yet another layer of humility that I need to learn...that he tried to teach me in Feb. with Phil 2:3 but I just didn't fully get. I hope this time I get it. To count others more significan than myself...to learn mercy.

James 3: 17-18
"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."

I wanted to choose the whole chapter of 61, but I realized I'm a little behind on memorizing, so I went smaller. I'm so thankful for God and his continual healing upon my life. He has brought some cool things into my life recently. Thank you God for joy. Thank you Jesus that you take our shame away. Thank you that you are with us in everything.

John 16:33 (NLT) -
"I have told you these things so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."

This verse has just hit my heart hard lately, mostly because of my experience with God at the Hillsong concert several weeks back. I have encountered some very trying periods of my life lately and God has been so good in reaffirming the Truth that He with me at every step and that I am redeemed in Him. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Thank you Ladies for sharing your hearts...I just love you all so much.

Oh, also I have been stuck on listening to this song by Jars of Clay lately called "Shelter" it's just a humble reminder of the reason and gift God has placed us all at Second Mile.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. This verse seems to keep popping up in so many places since the Hillsong concert a few weeks ago. I love reading it and seeing it in different places but I'm really excited about what God will do when it is sown in my heart.

I feel like every part of my life is in this crazy transition and its exhilirating to thinnk about and trust in Gods plan for this amazing community and for my own life. Words can't completly express how awesome Sunday was so excited to be on this Journey!,

I'm definitely still working on my verse from the past couple of weeks. I guess this is good practice of having grace on myself :)

I figured I'd post my next verse anyways.
"Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts." (Isaiah 26:8)

Oh, Sunday. I haven't been able to really put words to what I felt about the gathering other than I know it was a catalyst for some really deep things that God is doing in my life and I definitely think it was a catalyst for what God is doing in our community.

I was so thankful to be a part of Sunday night's gathering! I loved every part of it and could have also stayed for hours more. I'm excited for the challenges that lie ahead.

The gathering on Sunday was moving. I really did love every part of it and like several other people have stated, I could have stayed so much longer. I was sad we cut worship at the end to only two songs! For the last several weeks I have not been able to shake "The Greatness of Our God" from my mind. I feel like we have been on the brink of even greater things as a church and I am reminded that we cannot fathom the things God can do and what he has planned. So, my verse for this portion of the month is 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV):

However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him."

I am thinking about adding some of the surrounding verses, but these next few weeks I really need to review my past verses and make sure they stick!

Oohh this is late! But you all won't mind :)

I confess that I had high hopes of memorizing all of Psalm 37, but have honestly only picked out the verses that stick in my memory. The one that speaks to me the most is:

Psalm 37:25 (NIV)
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

Also, Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

And one that I memorized a long time ago that I have always loved:

Exodus 14:14
The LORD will fight for you, you need only to be still.

I am so glad I am not the only one who is a little late this time haha. Anywho, this is the new one:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue." Proverbs 31: 25-26

I can't really describe Sunday honestly. I feel like I have been in a pretty intense season of learning about God's grace and mercy, so to move into a season of learning to be merciful excites and humbles me. Sunday just seemed to solidify that 2M is going to jump and that our "falling" will be sweet (in the kind, compassionate sense-not the BA sense :) ).

Honestly, I've been stuck with trying to figure out what verse I want to memorize for the second half of March. I mean there's not a bad one in there! And trying to find the "perfect" one is missing the point. So...after getting over myself, here's my verse.

Philippians 3:13-16 (ESV)
"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained."

Ok,I am really behind but I agree with the others, better late than never. This Sunday Chad was talking about this verse and how important it is to Second Mile and I want that verse to be imprinted on my heart so that it can be integrated into my lifestyle so here it is.

Matthew 5:41-42 ESV
And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him 2 miles. Give to the one who begs from you and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.
