Jenn, your prayer for me has been more than answered. Thank you, friend.
Gratitude for His ministry to me through His Word fills my heart. I've spent much time reading Colossians over and over. Thankfully, the scripture I've memorized encourages me throughout each day.
Why wouldn't you want to fill you heart with the very words of God?
What keeps you grounded in seasons of ease and rest?
What keeps you focused through seasons of struggle, hardship, difficulty?
Whose words fill your heart as you pray, speak to others, talk to yourself?
Who gives you courage in the midst of adversity?
Don't give up.
As you know, my brain is healing and I've noticed that taking in new scripture is difficult. I will work on Colossians 2:6-7 as long as necessary. I'm also having my oldest kids memorize this and verse eight.
Colossians 2:6-7
So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Oh I love that verse. Such a good one to keep at the front of our minds.
Well I've been wanting to share that the kids and I had a goal of memorizing 5 verses this summer together and actually memorized 8! It was so rewarding and I know they felt proud of themselves. The most recent was this:
Godly people cry out to God and He hears them. He saves them from all their troubles.
Psalm 34:17
What a blessing to memorize with my kids!!

My community group has decided to memorize this verse together, so my verse for this round is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
This was so encouraging and all around a butt-kicking post Angel. God has really been showing me the value of memorizing His Word. I for some reason had this idea that when I moved to South Sudan that I would be at this incredible level of spiritual maturity. Well, He has shown me ever more the power of holding His Word in my growing heart. So, with that said, this is the verse that I am going to commit to memorize this next Moxie session:
1 Peter 5:6-8 ~
"Therefore humbled yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to destroy you."
I am so thankful that God is using what you've already put in your heart to minister to you while your brain is adjusting. May we all persevere in this task so that we may each see fruit in our own lives as well. He is so faithful!
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV- "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (this will go along with verses 12-13 I memorized last time).
Matthew 10:32 NIV- Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

Proverbs 16:1-3
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue comes from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the lord weighs the spirit. Commit your ways to the Lord and your plans will be established.

Our campus pastor gave us this same verse from the message and personified it for women. I like this version a lot too.
Such a righteous woman will not be overthrown by evil circumstances. God's constant care of her will leave a deep impression on all who see it. She does not fear bad news nor live in dread of what may happen. She is settled in her mind that Jehovah will take care of her.

Angel, God's constant care for you and work in you does leave a deep impression on everyone who sees it. I used to have this verse memorized and it's time to brush off the cobwebs and start tucking verses away so that my heart will be firm with the Word of God.

I have been thinking lately through how I really intake and process scripture, and am coming to the conclusion that it's a very fluid process for me. I don't thrive in the systematic, and though I love the word of God so deeply, it is for that very reason something I struggle to define in references and quotation marks. Hear me say I'm not trying to be "the exception to the rule" but am genuinely processing what intaking the word of God means to me, and how to be honest to both myself and to this forum when I post.
For now, I am going to be posting verses that I focus on for days or weeks - the ones that become my mini-anthems for a time. The phrases in bold are the words in those verses that I really wrap my heart around at such times, even if I might not be able to tell you the whole verse word for word and reference for reference. Like I said, still processing.
My verse for the last few days (and for today all the same) is Matthew 6:7-8:
And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Empty phrases, let me not pray empty familiar phrases to the God of the universe! Let me know whom I serve!
Friends, I ask for forgiveness for not following through with a memory verse for September and I am late for October (yikes)! Isaiah 61 is always on my heart and mind and I thought I would continue to memorize that, But God (we heard that a lot this weekend) guided me to this wonderful verse as I continue to learn and am thankful for my redemption story,,,what we do not reveal and expose, cannot be healed...Thank you all for allowing me to share a small glimpse into my heart this weekend...I am so encouraged and grateful by your love and desire to walk in God's mercy, love and grace....

i love how your friend is praying for you. she knows the value of the word of God in struggles. i agree with her in prayer for you, that in the discomfort and questions that the Spirit will bring the words that are rooted in you sweetly, comfortingly to to mind. i pray in jesus, amen.
